While picking “truffles” | 22 civilians killed and injured in explosion of landmine in eastern countryside of Al-Raqqah

Al-Raqqah province: 22 civilians were killed and injured, as a result of the explosion of an old landmine in a car in Al-Sabkhah area in the eastern countryside of Al-Raqqah, while they were searching for “truffles”. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, some of them are in critical condition, and the initial toll indicates that more than ten civilians were killed.
Civilians within regime-held areas continue their search for a source of income to provide the needs of daily life, as many of them find in the “truffle” season an opportunity to earn their livelihood, heading to the areas where truffle is widespread in the Syrian desert, which is fraught with the danger of explosive mines and attacks by “ISIS”.
Accordingly, SOHR has documented the death of 70 civilians, including eight women and 24 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2024. In addition, 75 civilians, including a woman and 39 children, sustained various injuries.

The casualties are distributed regionally as follows:

Regime-controlled areas: 57 fatalities, including eight women and 12 children, and 56 injured civilians, including a woman and 21 children. Among this toll, 37 truffle pickers, including seven women, were killed and 24 others were injured.

SDF-held areas: 13 fatalities, including 12 children, and 14 injured children.

HTS-held areas: Four injured children.
