Poor health situation | Suspension of support provided to Al-Busayrah hospital in Deir Ezzor countryside deepens sufferings of patients

Deir Ezzor province: The general hospital in Al-Busayrah in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor plays a vital role in providing healthcare in Deir Ezzor countryside, because of its strategic location in an populated area, where it serves a large number of residents.

Recently, support provided by organisations to the hospital has been suspended, which has led to a decrease in the number of doctors and nurses and the lack of medical equipment and medicines. The current situation poses a threat to the safety and lives of patients who depend mainly on the services provided by Al-Busayrah hospital.

The hospital provides medical services for over 8,500 persons every month, and there are over 80,000 indirect beneficiaries. It is worth noting that all sections of the hospital were operated at full capacity, including the sections of surgeries, neonatal intensive care units and laboratories.

Following the suspension of support, surgeries have been totally suspended.

The hospital is now run by the health committee of Deir Ezzor Civil Council.

The suspension of organisations’ support has led to deteriorating the medical situation in the region, where patients have found themselves forced to travel for long distances and burden extra expenses in order to reach hospitals in neighbouring areas, such as Al-Shuhayl hospital.

The expenses of a trip from Al-Busayrah to Al-Shuhayl exceed 150,000 SYP, and such high expenses are unaffordable by many patients who have been already grappling with dreadful living conditions.

Residents in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor have appealed to relevant authorities and humanitarian organisations to interfere immediately to solve this issue in Al-Busayrah general hospital and provide the required support, including enhancing the medical stuff, providing medical equipment and medicines, improving medical services and covering the needs of patients in the region.
