Initial death toll | Over 36 regime soldiers killed and tens others injured in Israeli strikes on positions near Aleppo international airport

Aleppo province: SOHR activists have reported that at least 36 regime soldiers were killed and tens others sustained various injuries, some seriously, in the Israeli strikes which hit a weapons warehouse belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah in Jabrin area near Aleppo international airport in the early hours of Friday morning. The Israeli strikes also targeted plants of the air-defence forces in Al-Saferah, while explosions were also heard in Kafr Joum area in western Aleppo.

Meanwhile, regime air-defences fired several missiles, attempting to intercept the Israeli missiles, but some missiles reached their goals. Ambulances and fire brigades were seen rushing to the targeted sites to evacuate the injured people and extinguish the fires, along with cordoning off these sites. However, no strikes hit the airport.

It is worth noting that this is the highest death toll ever among regime forces in a single Israeli attack in Syrian territory.

SOHR documented 28 attacks in 2024: 20 airstrikes and eight rocket attacks by ground forces, during which Israel targeted several positions in Syria, destroying nearly 51 targets, including buildings, weapons and ammunitions warehouses, headquarters, centres and vehicles. These strikes killed 98 combatants and injured 47 others. The fatalities are distributed as follows:

  • 13 Iranian members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

  • 13 members of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

  • 12 Iraqi persons.

  • 14 Iranian-backed Syrian militiamen.

  • Nine Iranian-backed non-Syrian militiamen.

  • One unidentified person.

  • 36 regime soldiers.

In addition, those attacks left ten civilian, including a woman, dead and ten other civilians injured.

The attacks are distributed regionally as follows:

  • Damascus and Rif Dimashq: 13 attacks.

  • Daraa: Seven attacks.

  • Homs: Three attacks.

  • Al-Quneitra: Two attacks.

  • Tartus: One attack.

  • Deir Ezzor: One attack.

  • Aleppo: One attack.

SOHR would like to point out that Israel sometimes targeted more than one province in a single attack.
