“De escalation zone” | Jihadist faction kills regime officer in Idlib countryside

A captain of the regime-backed 8th Division hailing from Al-Qardaha city in Latakia province was shot dead by members of “Ansar Al-Tawhid” jihadist faction on Maarrat Mukhes frontline in the southern countryside of Idlib.

 

Since early 2024, SOHR has documented 162 operations in the “de-escalation zone,” including attacks by ground forces, gunfire by snipers, bombardment and drone attacks, which left 189 combatants and civilians dead. In addition, these operations left over 67 combatants and 80 civilians, including 12 children, injured.

 

The fatalities can be distributed as follows:

 

  • 18 civilians, including seven children and two women.

 

  • 116 members of regime forces, including 11 officers.

 

  • 47 members of Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham.

 

  • Five members of “Ansar Al-Islam” faction.

 

  • One member of “Jaysh Al-Nasr.”

 

  • One member of “Jaysh Al-Ahrar.”

 

  • A foreign jihadist.
