Proliferation of arms | Civilian shoots his cousin dead in southern Al-Hasakah

Al-Hasakah province: A civilian was shot dead by his cousin in the SDF-controlled village of Al-Awad in Al-Shaddadi countryside in southern Al-Hasakah following a dispute between them.

This coincides with the proliferation of arms and absence of laws controlling the possession of weapons by civilians.

The Syrian Observatory has documented 58 murder crimes in SDF-controlled areas since early 2024, where domestic violence and armed robbery were behind some of these murders, while motivations behind the others remained unknown. These murders left 62 civilian fatalities, including seven children and eight women; they are distributed regionally as follows:

  • Al-Hasakah: 20 civilians, including two children and three women.

  • Deir Ezzor: 21 civilians, including two children and three women.

  • Al-Raqqah: 17 civilians, including three children and two women.

  • Aleppo: Four men; three men in Manbij and a man in Ain Al-Arab (Kobani).
