A controversy arises between Arab and Kurish activists in al- Raqqa over the death of a detainee inside Asayish jails

A controversy has prevailed between Arab and Kurdish activists in the province of al- Raqqa about the death of Ayman al- Tahri who is from Tal Abyad, where YPG and Asayish arrested him after the took control over the city of Tal Abyad and its countryside in the last June accusing him of “pledging allegiance to Islamic State”. Arab activists in the areas accused Asayish of torturing him to death inside its jails yesterday, while other Arab activists said that he died inside a hospital in Tal Abyad after being taken to this hospital by Asyaish. Kurdish activist also denied that he was killed due to torture, and said that the reason of death was high blood sugar where he was suffering of a diabetic and refused to take his medicines. They also accused Ayman that he was one of the most prominent official in IS in the eastern countryside of Tal Abyad and involved in military operations against the Kurdish villages. An oppositionist and ex-detainee in the regime jails from the province of al- Raqqa said that, according to his information, Ayman al- Tahri was not a commander or security man in the “Islamic State” but his role was only concerned with services, and that one of his uncles stayed inside the regime jails because of his belonging to the Iraqi Baath Party while another uncle tortured to death in the eighties of last century; he was arrested and killed for the same accusation.

SOHR extremely condemns arresting for political reason carried out by all parties against the Syrian people who have revolted against Bashar al- Assad, where most significant demands have been Freedom and Justice. So, we cannot except that a man die in the prison whether due to lack of treatment or torturing to death. We call upon establishing an independent commission of inquiry contains human rights organizations, including Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, to investigate the death of Ayman al- Tahri and other detainees died inside Asyish and Islamist factions’ jails because who claims that he condemns Bashar al- Assad killing of prisoners cannot behave and follow the same ways of this regime.
