Following the withdrawal of regime-backed military formations | 4th Division stationed around Al-Tanf area
The 4th Division, led by Maher al-Assad the brother of the president of the Syrian regime, stationed at a checkpoint in Jlighem area near the 55-kilometre de-confliction zone, following the withdrawal of forces belonging to the regime military and security formations from the checkpoint on September 11.
It is worth noting that the 55-kilometre de-confliction zone hosts the International Coalition’s Al-Tanf garrison.
According to reliable SOHR sources the 4th Division has stationed at most of the passages and roads used for the entry and exit of goods, livestock, and other materials to and from the 55-kilometre de-confliction zone, and it is confiscating the trucks and their cargo.
On September 11, SOHR sources reported that regime forces withdrew surprisingly from “Jolaigham” checkpoint in the 55 kilometre de-confliction zone on the general road between Baghdad and Damascus.
Forces had stationed in the checkpoint since the “International Coalition” established Al-Tanf Military Base in 2016, at the junction of borders between Syria, Jordan and Iraq in Homs.
According to reliable SOHR sources, regime forces deployed 25 members as the checkpoint contained two personnel carriers, one t72 tank and some military machinery.
On June 7, Moscow accused western powers stationed in Al-Tanaf garrison in the 55 kilometre de-confliction zone near the Syrian-Jordanian-Iraqi border triangle of harbouring and supporting ISIS members in that region.
