Looming disaster | Proliferation of garbage contributes to spreading diseases in Deir Ezzor countryside

Deir Ezzor province: Areas in the northern countryside of Deir Ezzor countryside, particularly M’eizileh and Al-Izbah villages which are inhabited by displaced people from areas controlled by regime forces and Iranian-backed militias, experienced spread of a disease that has not been diagnosed yet.

The new disease has triggered concerns among residents, where its symptoms include fever, disruption of body functions, diarrhea and vomiting.

It is worth noting that a landfill is located near the US base in Koniko gas field, which has contributed to spreading diseases and epidemics.

Doctors have noticed that the new symptoms are exacerbated when patients use antipoetic, which increases the risk of meningitis.

In the past two months, tens of patients arrived in hospitals in the region, while the number of cases has been noticeably increasing.

Sources suggest that the reasons behind the spread of this disease are attributed to the use of unfiltered water that is transported directly from Euphrates river to residents by trucks.
