Turkish military escalation in 24 hours | 27 civilians killed in 45 drone attacks in N and E Syria
Since yesterday evening, Turkish forces have dramatically escalated their aerial and ground attacks in north and east Syria, where SOHR documented 49 airstrikes carried out by Turkish aircraft: 45 by drones and four by fighter jets, targeting 18 vital institutions and centres.
The latest Turkish airstrikes were concentrated on infrastructure, including water, power and gas stations, dispensaries, bread bakeries and checkpoints, particularly in Al-Hasakah countryside and Ain Al-Arab (Kobani).
In Al-Hasakah province, eight workers were killed in Turkish airstrikes on a gas station in Al-Suwaidiyah in Al-Qamishli countryside in northern Al-Hasakah, while 15 other civilians were injured, some seriously, which may raise the number of fatalities.
While in Ain Al-Arab (Kobani), a media activist of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) was killed in an airstrike by a Turkish drone yesterday.
Since early 2024, the Syrian Observatory has reported 147 airstrikes carried out by Turkish drones on different positions in areas controlled by Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES). These attacks killed 43 persons and injured over 37 combatants and 33 civilians, including three women and three children.
The fatalities are distributed as follows:
- 27 members of military formations operating in SDF-controlled areas.
- Three regime soldiers.
- 13 civilians, including a woman and a media activist working for the Autonomous Administration.
Here is a regional distribution of Turkish airstrikes on SDF-held areas in 2024:
- Al-Hasakah: 117 airstrikes left three regime soldiers, 20 combatants and four civilians, including a woman, dead.
- Al-Raqqah: Four airstrikes left three combatants dead.
- Aleppo: 30 airstrikes left four combatants dead.
