Threatening civilians’ lives | Fires break out in villages in Latakia countryside

SOHR sources have reported that members affiliated with the Ministry of Defence set fires in Latakia countryside. This has led to massive wildfires spreading across vast areas, consuming forests, lands and both public and private properties. These fires threaten the lives of civilians who have fled their homes to forested areas in an attempt to escape systematic executions operations against them.
Video footage obtained by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights shows members of the Ministry of Defence filming themselves setting fires in a village in Al-Qahtaniyah countryside.
According to reliable SOHR sources, the fires have spread extensively along the mountains in Al-Qardahah countryside, devouring forests and lands while thick columns of smoke rise to cover the sky over the region. This poses a serious threat to the environment, agricultural crops and the lives of civilians.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights calls on the relevant authorities to take immediate action to put out the fires that endanger civilians and ravage the coastal mountains of Syria. SOHR also urges the provision of urgent support, resources and equipment necessary to contain the flames before they spiral out of control.
