Moscow: Syrian militants still receiving weapons from Turkey

Militant opposition groups in Syria continue to receive reinforcements through Turkey, Russia’s RIA news agency and Reuters reported Monday.

“Despite all the efforts of the international community to prevent help reaching the ‘terrorists,’reinforcements for the militants are regularly sent into the north-eastern part of (Syria’s) Latakia province from Turkish territory,” RIA quoted Russian defense ministry officla Sergei Rudskoy as saying.

Allegations that Turkey is supplying arms to militant groups, including Daesh, operating in Syria have been vehemently denied by the Turkish government.

In May the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet published photos and videos purporting to show Turkish authorities shipping weapons to rebel groups in Syria. In response, top editors at Cumhuriyet, Can Dundar and Erdem Gul, were arrested in Turkey on Nov. 26 on charges of espionage and aiding a “terror” organization. They face jail time if convicted.
