Wadi Barada Evacuations Begin as Syrian Forces Retake Vital Water Source
After weeks of heavy fighting, rebel fighters began evacuating Wadi Barada, a valley in Damascus province that supplies most of the capital’s water, after a deal was struck with the Syrian government on January 28, local media said. The deal allowed fighters and their families to evacuate the town to Idlib city in northern Syria.
