Syrian Elite Forces break the siege of their 15 fighters at Bab Baghdad at the outskirts of the old city and lose their fourth fighter in the “Euphrates Wrath” Operation

The SOHR has been informed by reliable sources that the SEF which is part of the forces of “Euphrates Wrath” operation managed to break the siege of their 15 fighters at Bab Baghdad at the walls of the old city in Al-Raqqah. The SEF fighters, while attempting to move deeper into Al-Raqqah city and reach the old city located west of Al-Sinaa neighborhood, had been besieged by ISIS members who were able to encircle them by sneaking through tunnels to points behind their position.

Sources also confirmed to the SOHR that one of the fighters of the SEF lost his life while 4 others were injured while breaking the siege which lasted since the night till now. He was the first fighter to lose his life in the grand battle for Al-Raqqah and the fourth since the start of the “Euphrates Wrath” operation in November 2016. The other three were killed in the battles of controlling Al-Karama town in the eastern countryside of Al-Raqqah on the 25th of March 2017; he is also the 13th fighter to lose his life since the establishment of the SEF in December 2016.
