The Lebanese army severely beats hundreds of Syrian refugees in a scene similar to what happened in Baniyas and the Syrian Observatory calls for the immediate release of detainees and stop these disgraceful acts

The Lebanese armed forces stormed on the 30th of June 2017 camps of Syrian refugees in the Lebanese Arsal area adjacent to al-Qalamoun, and arrested about 400 Syrian refugees and humiliated them, where the pictures received by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights brought to mind the shameful and inhumane acts carried out by the regime forces in Bayda area in the Syrian city of Baniyas in April 2011, when they arrested citizens and gathered them in the square of the town and threw them on the ground, and insulted and mistreated them.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights calls upon the Lebanese authorities to immediately release all Syrian refugees, and condemn the abuse and humiliation of the Syrian refugees, and call upon the Lebanese forces to stop such shameful acts. We also call upon the United Nations to learn about the reality of refugee camps and the displaced Syrians within Syria and the neighboring countries, and we also demand the protection of the camps from assaults by the authorities in the countries where the refugee camps exist, and we call on the Lebanese authorities not to use the pretext of “the presence of members of jihadist groups” to continue having, assaulting, and arresting the Syrian refugees, and we also call on the Lebanese authorities and the Lebanese army to hold accountable the person who ran over a child in Arsal camp, where information was received about more causalities and injuries among civilians during the storming, searching and arresting processes.
