Deir Ezzor city is witnessing the first military attempt to break the siege imposed on it since early 2015 by the “Islamic State” organization

Deir Ezzor province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that warplanes believed to be Russian had carried out successive airstrikes against a dirt dam built by the “Islamic State” organization earlier on one of the branches of the Euphrates River, which is headed to areas controlled by the regime forces in Deir Ezzor city, in front of Kanamat neighbourhood, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that these warplanes carried out 15 consecutive airstrikes on the dam. Cross-sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory that the dam was built for the purpose of movement of the organization From Hawijat Sakr to the Kanamat area easily, which caused a complete water cut of the water pumping provinces that feed areas controlled by the regime forces in Deir Ezzor city and its surroundings, and if the warplanes re-shell the same place, it is possible that the water will be able to run and reach the besieged neighborhood of Harabesh with the neighborhoods al-Jurah and al-Qosur in Deir Ezzor city since the beginning of 2015 by the “Islamic State” organization.

This is considered the first military attempt by the regime forces to break the siege of Deir Ezzor city, following the supply of food, medicine and fuel to regime forces’ controlled areas via cargo planes on Deir Ezzor city and its outskirts, during the past months, where these planes dropped the thousands of food baskets by parachutes on the neighborhoods, barracks and sites of the regime forces and their controlled areas in Deir Ezzor.
