Warplanes shell Al-Mayadeen in as part of the continued escalation on east of Deir Ezzor

The eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor has been witnessing escalated airstrikes over the past few days. The SOHR activists observed that warplanes, whether Russian or affiliated with the International Coalition is unknown, carried out raids on Al-Mayadeen city, located in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The first raid targeted an empty house near Othman Mosque while the second targeted a public road near Al-Saraya area, destroying cars that were parked in the area but no casualties were reported.

The SOHR published on the 16th July 2017 that warplanes, whether Russian or affiliated with the International Coalition is unknown, targeted the city market in their first raid and houses opposite to Al-Sharq Hospital for Children in their second raid. As for the third raid, it targeted civilian houses near the city Garage. The raids destroyed 3 houses and caused material damages to the properties of the citizens. The SOHR documented the death of 6 civilians, including 3 children below the age of 18, and the injury of more than 10 civilians, with various degrees of severity. In addition, 5 more people got missing in the same shelling.

The SOHR published on the 15th of July 2017 that warplanes, most likely affiliated with the International Coalition, shelled areas in Al-Mayadeen city, which is considered the capital of the “State of Benevolence”. The SOHR observed warplanes carrying out airstrikes at 5:30 am on Saturday, the 15th of July 2017, targeting civilian houses near the girls only school in Al-Mayadeen city. The shelling caused destruction to the citizens’ properties and the death of 8 civilians, including 6 children below the age of 18 and two female citizens above the age of 18.
