Despite the aerial bombardment and shelling, the regime forces are advancing slowly inside the city of al-Sukhnah, the last city controlled by the “Islamic State” organization in Homs province

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that the violent clashes are still ongoing between the regime forces and their allied militiamen of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities against members of the “Islamic State” organization remaining in the city of al-Sukhnah, and the clashes are accompanied by heavy aerial bombardment and shelling on the city and its vicinity, where the clashes are concentrated inside the city of al-Sukhnah, amid slow advancement of the regime forces so that they control humanly about 25% of the area of the city, and reliable sources asserted to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the regime forces, despite controlling the city by firearm 8 days ago, could not fully control the city humanly and militarily, where tens of fighters of the “Islamic State” organization who remained in the city, are impeding the regime’s control over the city, because of their rejections to surrender or withdraw from the city, through mediation with dignitaries of the city and the area, and they insist on fighting till the end.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published at the end of July 2017 that tens of members of the “Islamic State” organization remaining in the city, refuse until now to withdraw from the city, which is witnessing to intensive air strikes by Russian and regime’s warplanes, which are targeting the outskirts of the city, and reliable sources asserted to the Syrian Observatory that the remaining members of the organization, mostly are from the city of al-Sukhnah, and chose to fight till the end, refusing to withdraw from their city, of which they took control in mid of May of 2015.

The SOHR published on Friday’s night that it documented since the 17th of July 2017, the date of ending the presence of the “Islamic State” organization by the regime forces in the western section of the southern countryside of al-Raqqa, until the 4th of August 2017, more casualties in the ranks of the regime forces and members of the organization, where it rose to at least 181, the number of members of the regime forces, the Palestinian al-Quds Brigade, the Palestinian al-Jalil Forces and their allied militiamen of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, who were killed during the period of 17th of July to the 3rd of August in explosions, shelling, and clashes with members of the organization, including 27 officers of different ranks. The death toll of members of the “Islamic State” organization, which was documented by the Syrian Human Rights Observatory, also rose to at least 233, during the same period, including local and field leaders.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 28th of July 2017 that the SOHR obtained information from several reliable sources, who reported that the “Islamic State” organization carried out successive withdrawals from the al-Sukhnah city, which used to be considered the last city controlled by the organization in Homs province, where the cross-sources of the Syrian Observatory confirmed that the majority of the members had withdrawn from the city, after the regime forces supported by the gunmen loyal to them of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities; were able in less than 24 hours from now to reach the outskirts the city, the withdrawals of members of the “Islamic State” organization came after the city has become fallen by firearm, after more than 50 days of intensifying the shelling on the city, where the regime had lost the city in the first half of 2015, as a result of a violent attack by the organization on the city and on large parts of Palmyra Desert and Palmyra City.
