Continued clashes in the desert of Rif Dimashq after about 24 hours of restoring the borders of Suwaidaa with Jordan

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has learned that violent clashes are still taking place since today’s morning between the regime forces and their allied militiamen against rebel factions of Jaish Usud al-Shariqiya and Ahmed al-Abdo Forces in areas in the Syrian desert in southeast of Rif Dimashq, in an attempt by the factions to advance at the expense of the regime forces, while the regime forces are trying to reduce the areas controlled by the factions in the area and continue besieging the factions in an area of 2800 km square and force the factions to withdraw in the same area before the regime forces complete the siege on the area, this came about 24 hours after the regime forces managed to restore the whole border area with Jordan in Suwaidaa province, after the withdrawal of the factions.

The SOHR published yesterday that the regime forces were able to achieve significant advancement in the area and control border area, and thus ending the presence of the factions on the Syrian – Jordanian borders inside the administrative border of the province of Suwaidaa. The clashes were accompanied by an exchange of shelling between both sides and airstrikes on the clash area, and there is information about casualties, and with this advancement, the factions don’t have border exits in the east and southeast of Syria, except for a border line on the border of the southeast of Rif Dimashq with Jordan, in addition to a border exit with Iraq, extending in the province of Rif Dimashq and Homs, which include a border crossing (Al-Tanf crossing) linking Syria and Iraq. This advancement came after a continued and violent attack by the regime forces about a month ago, after less than 48 hours of the start of the Syrian South truce, of which the factions operating in the countryside of Suwaidaa said that no one has informed them of the agreement and its terms, which has been reached under Russian-American-Jordanian consensus and entered into force on the 9th of July 2017, in the provinces of Suwaidaa, Quneitra and Daraa.
