The regime forces advance at the expense of ISIS in the besieged area in the eastern countryside of Homs and seek to impose a the biggest siege from the north of al-Sukhnah side

Homs province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:: the ongoing clashes are still taking place between the regime forces and their allied militiamen of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities against members of the “Islamic State” organization in areas in Sha’er Mountain and Howaisis fronts, within the besieged areas linked to the eastern countryside of Hama, where the regime forces managed to achieve new advancement one day after controlling the area of Howasis, and the SOHR learned that the regime forces, with a cover of heavy shelling, managed to control al-Abidiyah area and greatly advance towards west of Howasis area and Sha’er Mountain, in an attempt to reduces the area controlled by ISIS in the eastern countryside of Homs, and there is information about human losses due to the heavy shelling by the regime forces and the warplanes on the clash areas, and these clashes are accompanied by heavy shelling on areas in the Levant Desert of the Sukhnah City, where the regime forces are trying to advance in the remaining kilometers between their forces in the north of Sukhnah and their other forces in south of Tiba, in order to implement the biggest siege on ISIS in Syrian, and the regime forces managed to advance in position which were earlier controlled by ISIS in northeast of al-Sukhna city.

The SOHR published on Monday the 22nd of August that the Syrian Desert is witnessing violent clashes between regime forces supported by gunmen loyal to them of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities on one hand, and the members of ISIS on the other, the clashes are taking place in the besieged circle between the west of the line of encirclement from Ithriyah to Jabal Sha’ir, and the eastern countryside of Salamiyah, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that the clashes are taking place in the west of Jabal Sha’ir, where regime forces managed to achieve advancement and take the control of the area and the town of Howaysis, while the organization is trying by counter attacks to regain the lost areas which are extended from Jabal Sha’ir to Howaysis area in a distance of about 16 kilometers, these clashes are coincided with violent fighting between the organization and the members of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them, in areas in the eastern countryside of Salamiyah city, in which the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights observed few hours ago that a squadron of warplanes believed to be Russian carried out simultaneous intensive raids on Uqayribat area and the villages of Qulayb al-Thor, Abu Hanaya, Jana al-Albawi and the villages that are controlled by the “Islamic State” organization in the besieged eastern countryside of Hama, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that these intense airstrikes come in conjunction with growing violence of clashes between the regime forces supported by their loyal gunmen of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities against members of the “Islamic State” organization, in areas in the eastern countryside of Salamiyah after a violent attack by the regime forces on the area, in an attempt to achieve a new advancement in the area, after the regime forces managed yesterday to advance in the area and controlled 3 villages, hills and heights in the area.

These violent clashes which are taking place in the besieged circle in the eastern countryside of Hama and the part that is connected to it from the countryside of Jub al-Jarrah, al-Shomariyyeh Mountains and Sha’er Mountain area; come in conjunction with continue and violent clashes between the regime forces and the militiamen loyal to them of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities against members of the “Islamic State” organization, in the southern Desert of al-Tayba located north of al-Sukhnah, where the regime forces are trying to decrease the remaining distance which is about 10 km; between the regime forces north of al-Sukhnah and the regime forces who are advancing from Tayba towards south, and if they were able to control that distance, then, the regime forces will have completed the siege and encirclement of the “Islamic State” organization in thousands of square kilometers remaining under the control of the organization, also the clashes are accompanied by exchange of shelling between both parties, and targeting by the regime forces for locations and sites of the organization and its controlled areas in al-Sukhnah Desert.

It worth mentioning that the regime forces and the militiamen loyal to them have lost Hwisis area for the “Islamic State” organization at the 1st of May 2016 after a sudden attack by the “Islamic State” organization on the area, during which they were able to control the area and kill and injure tens of members of the regime forces and the militiamen loyal to them, also the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 19th of August 2017 that the de-escalation agreement in Syria completes its 15th week on a row, since its implementation on the 6th of May 2017 in the areas extending from Idlib to Daraa including the areas controlled by the rebel and Islamic factions and excluded the areas controlled by ISIS, while the ongoing agreement witnessed an escalation of military operations by the regime forces against ISIS in the Syrian Desert and other nearby areas, achieving an advancement at the expense of the organization in 6 provinces.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the military operations of the regime forces against the “Islamic State” organization in the Syrian areas, as the regime forces managed to restore control of tens of thousands of square kilometers, and they approached to end the presence of “Islamic State” organization in two new provinces, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented that the regime forces and their allied militiamen of Syrian, Iraqi, Iranian, Lebanese, Afghan and Palestinian nationalities, and with the air cover of Russian and the regime’s warplanes, managed to restore control over an area of about 34 thousand square kilometers of the areas controlled by the organization in Syria. The regime advanced in all of this area at the expense of the organization, and this advancement took place since the beginning of May 2017 until today the 18th of August 2017 in the province of Aleppo, Rif Dimashq, Homs, Hama, al-Raqqa, and Deir Ezzor. During this period, the regime forces advanced at the expense of the organization in addition to their control over 5 thousand square kilometers of the Syrian territories at the expense of the rebel and Islamic factions, and thus the total area in which the regime forces advanced since May 2017 until now is more than 39 thousand square kilometers, as the presence of the organization has been completely ended in the province of Aleppo, while the organization still controls areas in Homs, Hama, and the countryside of al-Raqqa, and the regime forces-held areas has become more than 77 thousand square kilometers of the whole area of the Syrian territories, with a control percentage of about 42% of the geographical area of Syria.
