The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights

About 48 hours after they controlled the airbase…the regime forces impose their firearm control on Abu Al-Duhur town in the east of Idlib

Idlib Province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the warplanes carried out several strikes this morning and after the midnight of Sunday – Monday, on areas in the vicinity and the outskirts of Maarrat Al-Nu’man city in the southern section of Idlib countryside, while the regime forces shelled last night and after the midnight of Sunday – Monday, areas in the countryside of Jisr Al-Shughur in the western countryside of Idlib, and other areas in the roads to Latakia countryside, without information about causing casualties.

In the same context, violent clashes are taking place between the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities against Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham and the rebel and Islamic factions, in areas in the eastern countryside of Idlib, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored clashes in Abu Al-Duhur town through which the regime forces managed to impose their control by firearm over most of the town, while clashes are taking place inside it in an attempt by them to impose their control over the entire town, 48 hours after they controlled Abu Al-Duhur Military Airbase, after the regime forces failed previously to reach it from the southern countryside of Aleppo, to start later an operation led by the Brigadier in the regime forces, Suhail Al-Hassan, known as the “Tiger”, who led previous operations against the factions, Al-Nusra Front (Al Qaeda in the Levant), and the “Islamic State” organization during the past years and he was able to recover tens of thousands of square km during his clashes.

It is noteworthy that the regime forces lost their control over Abu Al-Duhur Military Airbase in the 1st third of September 2015, following a sudden attack by Hayaat Tahir Al-Sham and the factions in the area, making use of the bad weather and sand storm that hit the province of Idlib at that time, where the regime forces lost their last positions in the province of Idlib, and at that time they only controlled the towns of Kafria and Foua, which are mostly inhabited by Shiite people, and controlled by the National Defense Forces and Popular Committees. It is noteworthy that Abu Duhur has been besieged for more than 2 years by Nusra Front and the Islamic factions until they controlled it in 2015, and the air base was out of services and the regime forces stationed there and the warplanes were not able to implement any military operation out of it.
