After the failure to go deep into the fronts of the north and the west of Afrin and the accusations against SDF of using it to target Kilis…the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation take the control of Barsaya Highland

Reliable sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the rebel and Islamic factions operating within the “Olive Branch” Operation backed by the Turkish forces started an attack from the northern border of Afrin with Turkey, on Barsaya Highland, located in the far north-east of the controlled areas of the Syria Democratic forces in Afrin, at a distance of 2 km from Azzaz city in the northern countryside of Aleppo, where a camp of the SDF used to be presented before they withdrew from it earlier, in which they managed to advance and take the control of the Highland adjacent the Syrian – Turkish border, and the Turkish forces accused the SDF of targeting Kilis from Barsaya Highland, and the clashes were accompanied by shelling by the Turkish forces and exchange of targeting in the clash areas between the both parties, and information about confirmed human losses in the ranks of the both parties, and this attack comes after the Turkish forces and the factions backed by them, failed to advance in areas in the west and the north of Afrin, and a round of clashes took place today at dawn of Monday the 22nd of January 2018, between the SDF against the fighters of the Turkish-backed factions, in Kafr Khasher area, where a fighter of a rebel brigade operating in the area was killed.

In the same context, the violent clashes are still continuing betweent he SDF against the fighters of the factions and the Turkish forces, in areas on the northern border line of Afrin with Turkey, and the western border line of it with Iskenderun, in which the violent clashes between them are concentrated in 6 areas which are Shenkal and Adamanly in the north-west of Afrin, Shadia and Surka on the western border of Afrin with Iskenderun, and Balyeh and Qarna in Bulbula Township on the northern border with Turkey.

And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published yesterday that it monitored that the Syria Democratic Forces carrying out a counterattack, and they were able to advance in sites they lost and in points to which the Turkish forces advanced to during the daylight hours, where the Syria Democratic Forces are trying to advance in the area and force the Turkish forces and the factions to return to the other side of the border, the clashes are accompanied by the exchange of targeting in the contact areas between both parties. The clashes between both parties are concentrated in the areas of Shinkal, Admani, Shadia, Surka, Hamam, Kerdu and other areas along the western and northern borders of Afrin, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published during the past few hours that 6 fighters at least of the factions were killed in the clashes, while 2 fighters were killed of Syria Democratic Forces in the same clashes, and the Syrian Observatory also published that the aerials shelling is still ongoing along with violent clashes, and the death toll is still increasing, as a result of recovering more dead bodies from under the rubbles caused by the aerial and artillery shelling on Afrin areas in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, where it rose to at least 11, the number of people killed and documented by the SOHR, who were killed in the massacre carried out by Turkish warplanes on Madjanah area in Jelbara village in the southeast of Afrin city, causing the death of 8 civilians  from one family from Ma’ert Al-Noaman countryside in Idlib province, including a woman and 5 children below the age of 16, rising to 21 at least, including 6 children and women, the number of those killed within 24 hours of shelling of the Turkish forces and warplanes on Afrin area, also areas in Kaljibrin town in the northern countryside of Aleppo witnessed fall of shells fired by the SDF located in the northern countryside of Aleppo, which caused material damage, and resulted in the death two persons -a man and his son- and the injury of others with varying severity.
