The fighting continues in Afrin area between the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation against the Kurdish units and renewed Turkish shelling targets several villages in the townships of Afrin

Afrin area is witnessing continuation of the combat operations between the attacking forces of the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation against the defending forces in the area represented by the Kurdish units, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights  monitored the continuation of the violent clashes in Haj Bilal area and other places in Shikhorzah area in the northern and the western countryside of Afrin, between the YPG and the Self-Defense forces against the rebel and Islamic factions and the Turkish forces, in an attempt by the latter to achieve new advancement in the area, and the clashes are accompanied by exchange of targeting in the clash area, which left human losses between the both parties, after the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented until today morning, Sunday, that the death toll has increased in the clashes and the shelling on Afrin area, where the death has increased to 134 fighters and soldiers of the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation who were killed since Operation “Olive Branch” was launched on the 20th of January 2018, including more than 19 soldiers of the Turkish forces which lead the operation, while it has increased to 108 fighters at least of the YPG and the Self-Defense forces who were killed in the aerial, rocket and artillery shelling, clashes and targeting in Afrin area.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also monitored shelling by the Turkish forces by artillery shells and missiles, where the shelling targeted areas in the villages of Zaytunak and Maar Sakah as well as other areas in the north-eastern countryside of Afrin, in conjunction with shelling which targeted areas in the countryside of Maabatli town, and the Turkish forces shelled areas in the villages of Mamla and Qaddah in the western countryside of Afrin, without information about causing casualties so far, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published during the daytime, that Afrin city and the area of the Syrian Jazeera witnesses large demonstrations, in which thousands of people took part. They went out to denounce the Turkish massacres against the people of Afrin city and its countryside, and to express their resentment at the Turkish military operation “Olive Branch”, which was launched by the Turkish forces on the 20th of January 2018. The demonstrators denounced the ongoing killing of civilian and the Turkish aerial, missile and artillery shelling on Afrin area, which is being almost completely besieged, and denounce the deteriorating humanitarian conditions. They also denounced the international silence towards the Turkish military operation in Afrin in participation with the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition factions.
