SDF restricts motorcycle use during Eid on security grounds

The SDF have imposed restrictions on motorcycle traffic in Deir ez-Zor during the Eid holiday because of security concerns, according to a conflict monitor.

Use of motorcycles will be restricted from 6am on June 13 through to the end of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, for “security reasons,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

The Kurdish-led force made the move after several attacks against their forces by ISIS in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province.

Three SDF soldiers were killed in a suicide attack on Sunday when a man on a motorcycle blew himself up at a checkpoint. Several others, including civilians, were injured.

Earlier, an IED attached to a motorcycle killed two members of the SDF.

Another three SDF were killed when eight persons on four motorcycles attacked a checkpoint.

All the attacks were believed to have been carried out by ISIS.

The SDF, in coordination with the US-led global coalition against ISIS and Iraqi security forces, is fighting to defeat ISIS in two remaining pockets in eastern Deir ez-Zor. They launched a major campaign against ISIS in the al-Dashisha area of Hasaka province earlier this month.

Located on the border with Iraq, al-Dashisha is a strategic location.

After the first week of the campaign, the SDF said on Monday they had advanced nine kilometres on the eastern axis and 13 kilometres on the western front.
