Anti-terrorist forces end ISIS members’ riot in Ghuwayran prison

Reliable sources have informed SOHR that SDF anti-terrorist forces completely ended the riot and rebellion by ISIS members in Ghuwayran prison in the southern neighborhood of Al-Hasakah city which started yesterday evening.

According to SOHR sources, anti-terrorist forces, with the help of Coalition aircraft, arrested four ISIS members who infiltrated from their wards to the prison’s perimeter attempting to escape from the prison. Anti-terrorist forces cordoned off the prison’s perimeter and released prisoners taken hostages by ISIS members who pretended to work for the prison’s administration.

SOHR sources reported yesterday that Islamic State members rioted inside Ghuwayran prison in southern neighbourhood of Al-Hasaka city.

According to Observatory sources, the rapid intervention forces of SDF were able to take control of the prison sections. Gunshots were heard in the perimeter of the prison while trying to control the prisoners.

On the other hand, U.S. jets flew over the area to support SDF and to closely monitor the situation in case it spiralled out of control.

The prison is housing more than 5,000 members of different nationalities, all accused of belonging to the Islamic State.
