Turkish-backed factions besiege military police building in Tal Abyad, demanding extradition of their commander

The Syrian Observatory has monitored today a security tension between members of the 3rd Corps and others of Turkish-backed military police, following the 3rd Corps’ attempt to arrest a military police commander in cases relating to corruption and blackmailing women. The 3rd Corps members managed to besiege the military police building in Tal Abyad.

In the meantime, machine gun fire was heard in the city. No casualties have been reported yet.

On April 5, Syrian Observatory sources reported seeing tens of Turkish-backed fighters of “Peace Spring” operation massing near Al-Alam roundabout in Tal Abyad city “Kari Sabi”, north of Al-Raqqah. According to SOHR sources, the fighters demanded be allowed to move to areas controlled by “Euphrates Shield” and “Olive Branch” and replaced with other rebels. They also called upon Turkish forces to pay their salaries. The fighters opened fire in the air expressing their discontent.
