More Syrian Militants Return From Libya In Coffins
At least seven Syrian militants were killed in the last few days while fighting for the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Libya, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on May 9.
According to the monitoring group, the dead bodies of the militants were sent to the Turkish-occupied part of northern Aleppo. The militants were killed in clashes with the Libyan National Army (LNA) around the capital, Tripoli, and the city of Misrata.</p>
“The death toll of pro-Turkish factions as a result of military operations in Libya has reached 268,” the UK-based group said in a report.</p>
The slain militants were fighting for the al-Mu’tasim Brigade, the al-Sultan Murad Brigade, the Northern Hawks Brigade, the al-Hamza Division and the Suleyman Shah Brigade.
In spite of these heavy losses, Turkey is deploying more Syrian militants in Libya. 8,000 Syrians are currently fighting for the GNA there. At least 3,100 others are preparing for deployment in Libya.
“Most of the factions no longer have a desire to send fighters to fight in Libya, especially in light of the extremely difficult conditions of the fighters there and Turkey’s failure to fulfill the temptations it promised to provide in the beginning,” the SOHR’s report reads.
Earlier this week, hundreds defected from the Turkish-backed Sultan Murad Division as result of disagreements related to the group’s involvement in the Libyan war.
Syrian militants have failed to make any serious achievement in Libya, so far. Currently, most Syrians are being used by GNA forces as “cannon fodders” on Tripoli’s hottest frontlines.
