The Syrian Observatory has monitored today the outbreak of new fires in north-eastern Syria, as a result of the shelling on wheat and barley crops by Turkish forces and proxy factions. Several fires broke out in the villages of Mashabeh, Abush and Khirbet Sha’ir, in SDF-controlled areas near the frontlines with Turkish-backed factions.

Moreover, fire also broke out in the villages of Al-Qasimiyah and Al-Dardara, north-west of Tal Tamer.

In the meantime, Turkish-backed factions have prevented fire crews from approaching to stop the spread of fires near the frontlines with SDF.

On 16 May, fires broke out on agricultural land in the villages of Al-Awlashi, Al-Bughaz and Al-Buihej, east of al-Bab, which is under the control of the SDF’s Al-Bab Military Council forces, after being targeted by Turkish-backed factions, setting agricultural crops on fire.

These villages are located three km away from the posts of Turkish-backed factions, while the forces of Al-Bab Military Council intervened with the support of locals to extinguish fires in the area.
