New Turkey-Russia agreement | Opposition factions to back seven km away M4, with full cessation of military operations in NE Syria

Reliable sources have informed the Syrian Observatory further details about the second phase of the agreement between “Putin” and “Erdogan” on the opening of Aleppo-Al-Hasakah international highway (M4).

According to SOHR sources, the agreement’s second phase stipulates for Turkish-backed factions pull-out from the frontlines of Tal Tamr and Abu Rasin in northern Al-Hasakah to seven km towards Turkey border, in addition to full suspension of military operation in the area.

“The implementation of Russia-Turkey agreement means that Syria Democratic Forces accept the recent advancement on the ground by Turkish forces and their proxies during ‘Peace Spring’ operation in north-eastern Syria,” the sources added.

On May 25, Observatory activists reported seeing a military convoy of Russian and regime forces, and Syria Democratic Forces moving from Ain Issa in the northern countryside of Al-Raqqah to Tal Tamr area in the northern countryside of Al-Hasakah.

These forces intended to be stationed along Al-Hasakah-Aleppo international highway (M4), in order to officially open the highway for civilians. The movement on the highway used to be rare as civilians fear of being attacked by Turkish-backed factions.
