Homs | Fires break out in rural areas and 2,000 donums of palm trees burned down in Palmyra

Smoke plumes continue to rise from several areas in Homs countryside, where fires broke out in palm groves in Palmyra, eastern Homs province, burning down about 1,000 donums of Palmyra’s Ghouta orchards from the south-east. Fires reached the temple of Bel master of the Palmyra gods. The city of Palmyra is one of the most important archaeological sites in Syria.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in al-Qusayr area in the western countryside of Homs. 

A fire also broke out in the town of Al-Rastan, north of Homs, while residents and fire crews were able to extinguish it.

According to Observatory sources, the fires are unknown and the perpetrators are still unidentified. Meanwhile, residents accuse the regime forces of committing these arsons, while the regime’s fire crews participating in extinguishing those fires.
