Libya’s war | Russia recruits more Syrians to fight in Libya, and SOHR renews its call to stop exploiting Syrians and turning them into mercenaries

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored a significant spike in the recruitment of Syrians by Russia in the areas controlled by Syrian regime, in order to use them as “mercenaries” in military operations on Libyan territory alongside the “Libyan National Army”.

Recruitment has been extended to new provinces such as Al-Sweida and Deir ez-Zor, by financial incentives, taking advantage of poor living conditions.

According to Observatory sources, the number of recruits who have arrived in Libya and who are preparing to move, has so far reached 940 mercenaries from the provinces of Al-Raqqa, Homs, Latakia, Al-Hasaka, Al-Suwayda and Deir ez-Zor.

The Syrian Observatory renews its call upon the international community to intervene to stop the recruitment of Syrians and turn them into mercenaries, whether by Russian or Turkish security companies, to send them to fight in Libya, and to interfere in the internal affairs of the Libyan people.
