“You are starving us” | Civilian protest deteriorating economic conditions, while regime soldiers holding vigil demanding ‘transfer out of Daraa’

Al-Suwayda Governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources have reported that dozens of regime soldiers from Al-Sweida governorate of those who are performing military service in Daraa governorate gathered in front of the building of Al-Sweida governorate, holding a vigil demanding that they be transferred outside Daraa governorate or provide secure transportation to their military barracks. This development comes after the recent escalation of repeated attacks and assassinations on regime soldiers in various areas in Daraa governorate in southern Syria.

Moreover, SOHR eyewitnesses say that dozens of citizens gathered in front of Al-Sweida’s city council under the banner “You are starving us”, protesting deteriorating economic conditions in all areas of Syria, and the prohibitively high prices of basic foodstuffs affected by the collapse of the Syrian pound against foreign currency, in light of the harsh economic sanctions on the Syrian regime. People protested the regime’s poor firefighting services, where fires have devoured large areas of agricultural land in the province.
