Israeli attacks on Syria | Nearly 40 strikes hit Syrian territories since early 2019, killing 11 civilians, and 225 Iranians, regime soldiers and loyalists

Israel has escalated its surgical military operations recently in Syria, targeting with missiles and airstrikes Iranian positions and others affiliated  Iranian-backed militias, the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Syrian regime.

 The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights continues monitoring and tracking  Israeli attacks in Syria, as Israeli forces have targeted Syrian territories on more than 38 occasions between January 1, 2019 and yesterday May 4, 2020.

According to SOHR statistics, the Israeli strikes hit positions, cargoes, weapons warehouses and depots, military vehicles, radars and air defence batteries.

In Damascus and Rif Dimashq the strikes hit the vicinity of Damascus International Airport, Al-Keswah, the area of the scientific research center in Jamraya in south-western Rif Dimashq, Al-Basateen between Jadidat Artouz and Sahnaya, nearby Aqrabah in the area between Sayeda Zeinab and Damascus International Airport in southern Damascus, Al-Mazzah and Villat Gharbiyyah in the capital Damascus, Sa’sa’ area, Al-Mazzah military airbase, Qudsaya suburb, the vicinity of Sahnaya in the south and south-west of the capital, the 75th Brigade nearby Al-Muqaylabiyah, the barren mountains of the towns of Qarrah and Felita in western Qalamoun, and at Jadid Yabous crossing near Syria-Lebanon border.

While in southern Syria and  border area with the occupied Golan, Isreali attacks targeted the vicinity of Al-Tha’lah airbase in the western countryside of Al-Suwaidaa, Nab’ Al-Sakhr, Tal Barriqah, Jbata Al-Khashab, the devastated Al-Quneitra, Al-Kum, Tal Al-Sha’aar in Al-Quneitra countryside, Ma’riyyah countryside in western Darra, Tal Al-Harah, the agricultural airport in southern Izraa.

Israeli strikes also hit the school of accountancy in Misyaf city, the middle-range missiles development centre in Al-Zawi village, Al-Tala’ee camp in Sheikh Ghadban village in Misyaf countryside, T4 military airbase, Al-Dab’aa airbase in western countryside of Homs, Al-Shayrat airbase, Palmyra desert in eastern Homs, Al-Hasan Ibn Al-Haytham camp on Homs-Palmyra road.

In Aleppo, the bombardment targeted the “Defence Factories” in Sfirah area in south-eastern Aleppo and Sheikh Najjar area in Aleppo suburbs.

Israel also attacked several areas in Deir Ezzor, including Imam Ali center, Al-Hezam Al-Akhdar area, the industrial area, Al-Abbas village near Al-Bokamal city, the crossing on Iraq border, Al-Herri area, other areas in Al-Bokamal in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, the deserts of Al-Quriyyah, Al-Salihiyyah and Al-Mayadeen.

Observatory activists have documented human losses due to these strikes, as 198 Syrian and non-Syrian militiamen were killed among Iranian forces, Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias, in addition to the killing of 27 regime soldiers and officers. The intensive bombardment also left hundreds injured, some of whom very seriously.

The Israeli strikes have also killed 11 civilians since early 2019, and they are as follows:

  • Six civilians, including three children and a woman, were killed in Sahnaya area in Rif

  • Three civilians were killed in Al-Adeliyyah and Al-Hujayrah areas in the southern Rif Dimashq after the fall of missile shrapnel on their house.

  • A man and his wife died under the ruins of their house which was hit with an Israeli missile in Beit Saber village in Sa’sa’ area.
