The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights

While they abuse civilians and prevent them from returning, the Turkish authorities form a “local council for the administration of Afrin”

the complaint follows another, and cries follow cries, without any attention from the international community, which deliberately turns a blind eye on the tragedy of hundreds of thousands of displaced people from Afrin area, who were displaced by the “Olive Branch” Operation Forces from their homes, towns and villages in Afrin area in the northwest of Aleppo Province, in conjunction with the continued catastrophic humanitarian situation right in front of the Turkish authorities who claim a stable humanitarian situation in Afrin, and at the same time the ignore of the international community for this disastrous situation of the displaced people in the northern countryside of Aleppo area, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that the Turkish authorities has formed a local council to administer Afrin area, from which its inhabitants have been displaced, their property were looted and still witnesses human rights violations every day.

And in the details monitored by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the Turkish authorities which formed the local council for the administration of Afrin area, continue to prevent civilians of Afrin area’s people from returning to their homes in Afrin area, of who have been waiting for about 10 days at Kimar Checkpoint, where they have been prevented without reasons, also hundreds of families who wish to return from regime forces’ controlled areas in the northern countryside are being prevented from returning to Afrin area, in conjunction with the continued prevention by regime checkpoints for civilians to reach Aleppo city, despite the continued smuggling of civilians through the checkpoints in exchange for large sums of money, which are paid to the smugglers and checkpoints regime in order to get them to Aleppo city, all of this happen amid catastrophic situations in the area to which hundreds of thousands of civilians have been displaced to in the northern countryside of Aleppo, due to the ignore of relief and humanitarian organizations for the catastrophic humanitarian situation and the shortages of medicines, treatment, baby milk and supplies, also there are pregnant women who need care along with other people with medical and health conditions that degraded day after day, due to the scarcity and great shortage of humanitarian assistance, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of 8 citizens of Yazidi families, they are: an elderly man, his elderly wife, their son and his wife with 2 of their children, in addition to another woman and her daughter, as a result of a mine explosion while they were trying to reach Aleppo for treatment, also an explosion on one of the roads between Afrin and Aleppo injured others of the same both families.

Local sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the Turkish-led “Olive Branch” Operation Forces, are still looting citizens’ property, opening houses –of which their owners have left-, seizing the houses in live in them, in conjunction with the continued arrests of citizens who remain in Afrin area, and the people are suffering the continued harassment of the “Olive Branch” Operating factions and the Turkish forces stationed in the area, amid demands for the intervention of effective parties and international and humanitarian organizations, to stop these frequent violations in the area every day.

The Syrian Observatory had documented yesterday that the Turkish authorities transfer tens of families to Afrin area and repatriate them in houses in the area, and in the details obtained by the SOHR the Turkish authorities transferred more than 150 families of the displaced people from the Eastern Ghouta and repatriate them in Afrin area, where these families settled in houses whose owners were displaced from as result of the attack of the Turkish forces and the Syrian opposition factions participating in “Olive Branch” Operation which started on the 20th of January 2018. The SOHR confirmed that the families are displaced people from areas controlled by Al-Rahman Corps and they arrived to the Syrian north in March.

The same sources confirmed to the SOHR that many displaced people from the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus refused to settle in Afrin. They refused during talks held by the displaced people of the Eastern Ghouta on their settlement in houses in Afrin area, where the Turkish forces provide them houses owned by people displaced from Afrin. The displaced people of the Eastern Ghouta expressed their resentment of this decision imposed by the Turkish authorities on the displaced people of Ghouta, through carrying out an organized demographic change by settling the displaced people of the Eastern Ghouta in houses owned by the displaced people of Afrin. They said that refuse any demographic change carried out by the regime forces and Russian in their areas which they left after violent shelling which left about 1800 civilian martyrs and more than 6 thousand injured.

The Syrian Observatory published on Monday the 9th of April 2018  report in which it said that “let us return to our homes or kill us”, this was the last cry of a woman from Afrin, describing her and her children’s conditions, near the area from which she was displaces, in it is the humanitarian situation that the world did not care about, as the relief organizations ignored hundreds of thousands of hungry people who have been displaced, and who live in the open, near their villages which were invaded by the Turkish forces which attacked the area leading Syrian rebel and Islamic opposition factions, within an operation called “Olive Branch” started on the 20th of January 2018, while the legation of the Human Rights has kept its humanity towards the Afrin area and its displaced people aside, after it ignored the cries and calls for help to save hundreds of thousands of the people who displaced from Afrin with nothing helps them live.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored humanitarian situations deteriorating day after another, where locals asserted to the Syrian Observatory that they have been staying for more than 5 days in the vicinity of Kimar area in the Eastern of Afrin, where hundreds of families are trying to return from the northern countryside of Aleppo to Afrin area, after they were prevented by the regime forces to displace to Aleppo city, and the checkpoints of the regime forces and gunmen loyal to them imposed large sums of money exceeded 1000 $ for a single person, where these families gathered near the checkpoints of the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation, try to enter Afrin area, which is controlled by the Turkish forces and their allied rebel and Islamic factions, and the locals added that the reasons of preventing them to enter are unclear, and they are absolutely prevented from entering except after paying sums of money reach tens of thousands of Syrian pounds, while people complained that most of the water provided for them is polluted and unfit for drinking, and there is great shortage and a lack of foodstuffs, medicines and medical supplies needed to treat the medical cases and diseases which those displaced people suffer, in addition to the lack of milk for babies and the children’s supplies and food, and the local asserted that the areas of displacement witnessed at least two cases of the birth in the open, amid absolute absence of health conditions for these births, while other women, children and elderly people suffer from diseases requiring treatment, in addition to the presence of persons who died then they were entered without accompanying persons, after 4 days of waiting at Kimar checkpoint, amid shameful international silence and obvious ignorance to the problems of those displaced people who become between the hammer of the displacement and the anvil of the return to Afrin area.

Inside Afrin, the situations were not better than they are outside it, where the reliable sources inside Afrin area asserted to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, that the factions are seizing the houses, after looting the other houses, where the fighters and commanders enter seize the houses, and do not leave them even after the owners of these houses returned, they asked the latter to find another place to take shelter in, while other sources informed the SOHR that after looting most of Afrin area by the Turkish forces and their allied factions operating within Operation “Olive Branch”, the arrests turned into popular trade by the factions, where arrests are being carried out against citizens who have joined the compulsory military service in the ranks of the Kurdish forces, then they ask for great sums of money reach millions of Syrian pounds to release them, while the sources confirmed that killing was carried out against citizens in Afrin area, last of which was the death of a young man who sources said that he suffered mental disorders, under the pretext of “belonging to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party”.

Despite the arrests and harassments against the remaining residents of the Afrin area, of security harassment and others moral, but hundreds of families are trying to return to Afrin area, as a result of the catastrophic situations that the displaced people suffer in the northern countryside of Aleppo, and this is one of the displaced people call an appeal on behalf of many people like him, to just allow them enter Kimar area and resort to houses, as the bad weather exhausted them and the lack of shelters led to deteriorated health conditions and diseases that their children and families suffer from, call through the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on the International parties to move, if they still have bit of conscience or humanity.

And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented about 300 citizens including 43 children and 28 citizen women, of the al-Kurds, Arabs and Armenians, who were killed in the Turkish aerial, artillery and missile shelling, and in executions against several citizens in Afrin area since the 20th of January 2018, also the shelling injured hundreds of citizens with varying severity, and local sources asserted to the SOHR that the citizens’ mobile phones, cars, tractors, motorbikes and electronic sets and equipment were looted by the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation, and reliable sources said that their houses were looted of all their contents of equipment, machineries and supplies, and the citizens also asserted that the humanitarian aid was organizationally distributed in front of the media in the cameras, while behind the cameras and in the scattered and remote villages in Afrin countryside, these humanitarian aid was sold at high prices to merchants and shop owners, who also tended to sell them for the citizens at double prices of those which the foodstuff was purchased at, and the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation are continuing to interrupt electricity and water to the most of Afrin area, and sources confirmed that displacement of citizens from Afrin countryside to the city was documented, where sums of money were imposed on those entered Afrin city by the checkpoints deployed on the roads between Afrin countryside and the city, in addition to arrests against tens of citizens who stayed in the area, and they were transported to detention centers after being subjected to insults and humiliation.
