The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights

In about 93 months… about 560 thousand were killed in Syria since the day of claiming rights to the international human rights day

About 93 months, 651 weeks and hundreds of days that crunched the Syrians in the jaws of death, declaring each day the decrease of their numbers, and the bombshell is that the decrease was of the Syrian people and in their land by Syrian and non-Syrian killers, to turn the Syrian citizens between the now and then from demanding for their freedom, dignity, and principles such as democracy, justice, and equality… to warriors and fighters in a major battle, in which everyone took up their conventional and non-conventional weapons to kill, terrorize, displace, and destroy the country’s past and present, adding an aura of mystery over the future of the citizens.

Since the beginning of the Syrian revolution in mid-March 2011, the first file that appeared on the Syrian arena is file of the detainees, prisoners of conscience, who opposed the regime of Assad and demanded their freedom and principles that the country lacks, where it was the first case which followed the calls of the demonstrators and their cries against the country’s regime, after that; regime’s intelligence began unleashing its members across the country, trying to impose a their own version of the realty, which is: any claim for freedom or opposition to the regime through expressing opinion would end by arrest, and they fill the Syrian regime prisons and security detentions with detainees who had no guilt, they only announced their demands in public demonstrations since March 2011, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored Syrian regime’s arrest of hundreds of thousands of civilians, some of them were interrogated briefly, some were arrested for a certain period and then were released, while the rest are still missing between martyrs and prisoners, and the Syrian Observatory documented the death of more than 104000 Syrians, they were killed under torture in regime’s detentions and prisons, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights received information that they were executed, murdered, and killed within the prisons and detention centers of the regime forces and intelligence,  where more than 83% of them were liquidated, killed, and died in these camps between May 2013 and October 2015, the sources also confirmed to the Syrian Observatory that more than 30000 detainees were killed in the notorious prison of Sednaya, while the second predominant percentage was in the Air Intelligence branches run by the serial killer Jamil Al-Hassan, the General in the ranks of regime’s intelligence.

With the start of military operations, after the Syrian regime refused to listen to the demands of the Syrian people, who revolted at the authoritarian era of their country’s history; the overall humanitarian conditions began to change, and the situations started deteriorating increasingly, until it came to the point where millions of Syrians were displaced to displacement camps and Asylum countries, where some of them managed to get out to the European countries, others spread in the neighboring countries such as Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Kurdistan in addition to the rest of the Arab countries, while displacement camps spread particularly in the Syrian North, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored building tens of varying sized camps in the northern countryside of Aleppo, the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, Idleb countryside, and the outskirts of Hama countryside, in which there are hundreds of thousands of displaced people, and the number has been rising in the last two years, as a result of the increase of the demographic change process, which was carried out consecutively and emptied many areas of their population, and imposed the control of the regime forces and their allies of the Iranians, Russians, and the Lebanese Hezbollah on areas which population was displaced, in addition to the evacuation of areas that were besieged by the factions, and as a result, the north of Syria was crowded with hundreds of thousands of displaced people south and east of Damascus, south of Rif Dimashq, Eastern and Western Ghouta, west of Rif Dimashq, Zabadani, Madaya Bukain, Eastern and Western Qalamoun, the northern countryside of Homs, the southern countryside of Hama, and the provinces of Daraa Al-Quneitra, where tents and camps were built for them hastily, tents and camps that doesn’t protect them from the heat of the summer nor the cold of the winter. These displacements were mostly supported by Russia, Arab and regional parties, and with great deals the money of which was provided for senior officials in Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the most notable of them was the engineer of displacement deals Kianna Hwyja, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored her taking millions of dollars to convince the rebel and Islamic factions and the “Islamic State” organization to leave strategic areas, while the year 2018 imposed full calm over the capital Damascus and its surrounding areas in terms of military operations, also the Syrian Observatory monitored tens of thousands of civilians being moved to shelters in the vicinity of the capital; until they are allowed to return to their homes in Damascus and the Ghouta, while the Syrian Observatory monitored large displacement process northwest of Syria -in Afrin area specifically- by the Turkish Forces and the Turkish military operation carried out by their forces with factions of “Olive Branch” operation, which is composed of Syrian rebel and Islamic factions operate under the command of the Turkish forces, in Afrin area; where displacement took place against hundreds of thousands of Kurds, who are from the area or people displaced to this area from other Syrian areas, in addition to the displaced people in areas east of Euphrates and east of Syria; as a result of military operations by the regime forces and their allies, the International Coalition, and the Syria Democratic Forces, and due to regime’s former shelling on the area during the past months 93.

The demographic change and displacement process did not have enough by erasing the present of Syrians and their past, the present has become threatened by booby-trapped, unknown, and mysterious future, whether in living, social, educational or even health terms, where the camps that the local organizations are no longer able to meet their demands, and they have not received the support needed to make their situation better from the international and regional Organizations, and the Syrian Observatory still periodically publishes reports about the Syrian areas that live under tragic and catastrophic conditions, where tens of thousands of children have left schools by two main reasons: the first is the need for children to work to help their families and the high cost of living, and the other one is the lack of schools and educational centers capable of providing education for hundreds of thousands of children and boys, who were supposed to receive help from the silent world, in order to build the future they want, but the facts have proven that the international parties which are active in the Syrian case are pursuing more killing, destruction, devastation, displacement, and demographic change, in addition to distributing power and influence in Syria, which was the first thing the Syrian land owners themselves were deprived.

This dispersion and the progress of powers at the expense of others, have affected the peaceful coexistence among citizens greatly, where the military life became a burden over their lives. The military presence in an area -was considered by many people- a safety valve that prevents their imprisonment in the prisons of their opponents, or being killed by them, but at the same time this turned the lives of civilians to a life of chaos with varying degrees of violence, and the social coexistence stood on the edge after local and regional parties intended to create tribal, clan, ethnic, and sectarianism discrimination among the components of the Syrian people, sometimes through publicity and others through killings, assassinations, and security chaos, which has expanded dramatically and started threatening the people’s lives and coexistence.

All conferences in Astana, Sochi, Geneva meetings were unable to find a viable solution for the future of Syria, where the dictators’ holding onto the power, and warlords’ clung to their leadership and forces, and international and regional interests are present on top of the priorities of the international community, all of that made the Syrian blood a game in front of adults, who have not succeeded in building any complete project, where once they agree to the terms; more important terms are being forgotten, all occurs in accordance with each party’s interests alone, and that’s what irritated the Syrian people, even the children and women who have been subjected to extensive violations of killing, wounding, injuring, raping, detaining, displacing and other violations which records have expanded.
Today, the international community must work seriously and respect the blood that was shed and spilled inside Syria, otherwise everyone would be condemned in front of the conscience of humanity, and because today is the international human rights day, the United Nations and the local, regional and international Human Rights organizations have to work more and find more seriously to deliver the offenders to punishment and stop the violence against the Syrians, whose Human Rights have been violated, even their right to live is being bargained and swapped in exchange of money, asylum, or even work, and the Syrian Observatory documented the killing in Syria whether among the civilians or between the fighting parties, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the deaths of 367965 persons on the Syrian territory since the start of the Syrian revolution on the 15th of March 2011 until the Universal Day of Human Rights, the 10th of December 2018, and the casualties were distributed as follows:

The total number of civilian casualties is 111330; and it is distributed below according to party that caused the death:

By the “Islamic State” Organization 5356 civilian casualties, they are 4517 men, 467 children under the age of eighteen and 372 citizen women over the age of eighteen.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights indicates that this statistic does not include the 88000 citizens who were killed under torture in the detention centers and prisons of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, and the observatory got the information about their death during the period of their detention, It also doesn’t include the fate of more than 5200 abducted civilians and fighters in the prisons the “Islamic State” organization, in addition to that, it does not include also the fate of more than 4700 prisoners and missing of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them, and more than 2000 kidnapped by the rebel and Islamic factions, the “Islamic State” organization and Fateh al-Sham Front (Jabhat Al-Nusra earlier) on charges of the loyalty to the regime.

Also the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights estimates the real number of who were killed to be about 90 thousand persons more than the numbers that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights was able to document, due to the extreme secrecy on the number of casualties by the fighting parties, and due to presence of information about civilians casualties the Observatory was unable to document their death, because of the difficulty of reaching some remote areas in Syria.

Also the continued military operations, shelling and explosions have injured more than 2 million Syrian citizens with different injuries and permanent disabilities, while about 12 million other citizens including hundreds of thousands of children and hundreds of thousands of citizen women were displaced between the refuge and the displacement areas, also the infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and private and public property have been destroyed greatly.

After 93 months watering the Syrian soil with blood, and the continuation of killing on this land, the world and the International Community have no excuses to delay the international move, to end the death, the killing, the destruction and the displacement in the Syrian territory, to give the chance to the people of this nation to have a chance to live and re-build their country and to return their homes or the ruins in their cities, towns and villages, and there are no pretexts or excuses can stand in front of the International Courts to prevent the criminals and the murderers to be punished, with the exception of being those who are responsible for the administration of justice, evade from applying it, as we in the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights will continue our calls for the international parties and the UN Security Council to move and to refer the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Syria to the International Criminal Court, so that the killers of the Syrian people, their instigators and their commanders are punished, and to and to stop killing and give the chance to the Syrian people to reach the state they dream, the state of justice, democracy, freedom and equality and that guarantees their rights.

If the International Community and its justice were present from the beginning, and if they were serious in helping the Syrian people to reach what they look forward, in reaching the state of justice, democracy, freedom and equality, as the Syrian people do not ask for much, they only demanded their dignity, but the International Community turned a revolution has precious goals, to a war between it and extremist organizations, and facilitated their way to spread, thus, they killed all the dreams of the Syrian people, it also reached that some of those who are responsible for the solution in Syria, to silence or bless the displacement in Syria, under the umbrella of “reconciliation and truces”, and it was only a participation by them in the crimes that are committed against humanity in Syria, and we at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, and despite of the killing threats we received from the all parties and all killers in Syria, and from parties participated in killing Syrian people, do not and will never stop what we started of monitoring, documenting and publishing all violations and crimes committed against the Syrian people and against the humanity, and the war crimes that are still being committed in Syria, even it coasts our lives.
