Under Russian pressure | Syrian regime officials meet with 5th Corps leaders in Daraa to settle security situation of 8th Brigade members

Reliable sources have told SOHR that a delegation of the Syrian regime met yesterday, in the city of Bosra al-Sham in Daraa countryside, with the leaders of the 8th Brigade of the Fifth Corps under Russian sponsorship.

The delegation included the head of the security committee in southern Syria, the head of the Air-Force Intelligence branch, and brigadier generals representatives of the Military Intelligence and the National Security Branches.

According to Observatory sources, they agreed to work on a comprehensive settlement of the security situation the 8th Corps’ members and dissident officers, under pressure from the Russian side which formed the Fifth Corps and its military formations.

The committee will begin its work as soon as possible to settle the situation of 450 fighters of the Corps during the first phase, while regime forces have been stalling and evading the settlement procedures in the past, considering them wanted by the security branches.

Last June, several areas of Daraa witnessed protests and popular anger.

The Syrian Observatory monitored security tension in the town of Sayda as gunmen of the Russian-backed 5th Brigade ripped off pictures of the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad, protesting the killing of two members of the Fifth Corps.

A popular demonstration also took place in the town of Tafas in Daraa countryside, demanding the overthrow of the regime and the expulsion of Iranian militias and Lebanese Hezbollah from the country.

SOHR eyewitnesses had said that residents of the town of Kahil, east of Daraa governorate, participated in the funeral of one of the members of the 8th Brigade of the Fifth Corps who was killed during clashes with regime forces yesterday in the town of Mahajeh.

The funeral turned into a demonstration. Participants chanted slogans against regime forces and security branches, demanding the toppling of the regime.
