Tribal fight in Tafas | Unknown gunmen assassinate former opposition fighter of the conflicting tribes

Daraa Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: Syrian Observatory activists have documented the death of an ex-fighter of “Fajr Al-Islam” faction, after being shot last night in Tafas city in west Daraa countryside. It is worth noting that the victim was of “Al-Za’bi” tribe which has clashed with “Kiwan” tribe for days, as tension has been still prevailing Tafas city. Although tribal and military mediated between the two sides in order to defuse the bloody conflict, no solutions have been reached.

On January 14, SOHR activists documented the death of a civilian woman affected by wounds she sustained a day earlier, after being hit with an indiscriminate gunshot during armed fight between two tribes in Tafas city in the western countryside of Daraa.

Meanwhile, cautious calm was prevailing Tafas city, while “Kiwan” and “Al-Za’bi” tribes were seen on high alert. Moreover, SOHR activists confirmed that a military and tribal delegation arrived in the city in the morning in order to defuse the disagreement between the two tribes and put an end to the conflict. On the other hand, shop owners continued closing their shops for fear of renewed clashes.

A day earlier, SOHR activists documented the death of three people and injury of another one during an armed fight between “Kiwan” and “Al-Za’bi” tribes in Tafas city in the western countryside of Daraa. This development coincided with growing tension in the city, while both tribes were amassing more members. Moreover, regime reconnaissance drones were seen flying over the city. It is worth noting that the three fatalities were gunmen of the two conflicting tribes.
