SOHR | “Media reports of new Israeli attack on Deir ez-Zor untrue”

SOHR confirms that reports of a new Israeli attack on Deir ez-Zor, which have been circulated on some social media during the last 48 hours, are untrue.

And the explosions that rocked Deir ez-Zor yesterday, caused by detonating remnants of war by the Afghan and pro-Iranian “Fatimiyoun” militia near al-Rawad area, west of Deir ez-Zour city centre.

Also, reports of the killing and wounding of five local IRG militiamen in a drone attack on their car in Albu Kamal, east of Deir ez-Zor, are baseless. However, any explosion rocks Deir ez-Zor is being circulated as an Israeli attack targeting pro-Iranian militias.

On January 16, reliable sources informed the Syrian Observatory that the explosion which hit an ammunition depot affiliated to Iranian-backed militias in Al-Taybah village in Al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor yesterday, was caused by missiles or shells fired from the desert, causing material damage.

SOHR sources confirm that the attack has been carried out by a ground bombardment not airstrikes, while the perpetrators are believed to be ISIS cells spreading widely in the region.

SOHR sources also confirm that reports circulated on social media and other media outlets of new strikes by Israeli jets on the region yesterday are completely untrue. Moreover, the explosion coincided with the flight of an Iranian reconnaissance drone.

It is worth noting that the populated village of Al-Taybah hosts headquarters affiliated to the “Political Security Service” and two checkpoints, one belongs to NDF and the other belongs to the 4th Division, as well as other headquarters affiliated to the Iranian-backed militias which are the region’s de facto dominators.
