Syrian desert | Russian jets shower ISIS positions with nearly 100 strikes, after nearly 15 regime forces killed and injured in ISIS ambush

Russian fighter jets are still flying over the Syrian desert, along with executing intensive airstrikes on ISIS positions in Aleppo-Al-Raqqah-Hama triangle and Deir Ezzor-Homs road. SOHR sources have documented over 95 airstrikes executed by Russian jets in the past 24 hours, and these airstrikes started just after the latest ambush by ISIS members in the desert.

Observatory activists had documented the death of four members of regime forces, including a first lieutenant,  and the injury of ten others in an ambush by ISIS members, yesterday, on military buses in Al-Shawla desert in Deir Ezzor countryside.

SOHR sources also reported that the large-scale security campaign led by Russia and its proxy forces continued in the Syrian desert with the aim to secure Deir Ezzor-Homs road, in the wake of noticeable escalation of ISIS operations. Joint forces of the “National Defence Forces” (NDF), the Palestinian “Liwaa Al-Quds” and 5th Corps were combing the area from Kabajeb and Al-Shawla in the west of Deir Ezzor to Al-Sukhnah.

Reliable sources informed SOHR that Russian forces started to provide ground protection for these joint forces, after bringing in large military reinforcement to the region, as the campaign entered it second consecutive week. Meanwhile, Russian fighter jets were providing air support for the campaign.
