To reduce Iran’s expansion and fight ISIS | Russia continues establishing base and posts at the administrative border between Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor

Russian forces continue operations to establish a new base in the south-eastern countryside of al-Raqqa at the administrative border with Deir ez-Zor province, where the Russians have completed the construction of the airstrip near Maghdan Atiq, where Russian helicopters have begun to use it.

As the construction of military posts continues near the airstrip, Russian forces are still transporting logistical and military equipment to complete their plan.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the Russians want to achieve many goals, chief of which is to reduce Iran’s expansion and determine its limits, especially since they are stationed close to them, relying mainly on the Fifth Corps established by Russia, in addition to counter ISIS activities in the desert.
