Ongoing Security vacuum in Daraa | Residents found body of regime “collaborator” in western countryside

Daraa province : SOHR activists have reported that residents of Taseel town in the western countryside of Daraa found a civilian’s body with gunshot wounds in the head dumped at the suburbs of the town.

According to SOHR sources, the victim was a former member of opposition factions operating in Daraa province, before he struck a reconciliation deal in 2018 and cooperating with the Syrian regime.

It is worth noting that the victim’s brother was a leader of a group belonging to the air-force intelligence service, who was assassinated last year by unknown gunmen.

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1117 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 764 persons, categorised as follows:

  • 217 civilians, including 13 women and 22 children
  • 354 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services
  • 136 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders
  • 26 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces
  • 31 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
