Daraa security chaos | IED explodes in local commander’s car, while two persons killed in separate attacks

Daraa province: SOHR activists have reported that unidentified persons have targeted the car of a local commander working for the Military Security service with an IED on the road between al-Musaifra and Um Walad towns in Daraa countryside. The IED explosion hit the car which was carrying him and his escorts. However, no casualties have been reported yet.

 

According to the sources, the commander had led the local opposition faction of “Jaish al-Yarmouk” in Daraa, and he left to north Syria according to the reconciliation deals in 2018.

 

The commander sneaked back to Daraa and joined a group working for the Military Security service.

 

On the other hand, a civilian young man died affected by the wounds he sustained, after being shot by unidentified gunmen in front of his house in Nawa city in the western countryside of Daraa today.

 

Moreover, a person “collaborating” with the Military Security service was killed in al-Sanamayn city in Daraa countryside.

 

Accordingly, the number of people who were killed across Daraa province since the start of the recent agreements has risen to 42. The fatalities were distributed as follows:

 

  • 21 civilians, including a child, some of them were former fighter and gave up fighting after striking reconciliation deals in 2018.

 

  • 20 regime soldiers, members of the Russian-backed 5th Corps and regime “collaborators”.

 

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 1,227 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 884 persons, categorized as follows:

 

  • 268 civilians, including 14 women and 25 children.

 

  • 399 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services.

 

  • 155 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders.

 

  • 27 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces.

 

  • 35 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
