Ghuwayran prison | Military forces prepare to comb the last buildings where ISIS fighters holed up before their surrender

Death toll update | 211 ISIS members, combatants and civilians killed in the latest events

Al-Hasakah province: SOHR sources have reported that combing operation by military forces is expected to start this morning in the buildings in the northern part of Ghuwayran prison, where ISIS fighters were holed up before their surrender, as the military forces are combing quarters near these buildings. 25 to 40 ISIS members are expected to be still hiding in a basement in this section, after a week without food, while some of them have been killed in last night’s airstrikes, while they were attempting to escape.

On the other hand, military forces are still combing neighbourhoods around Ghuwayran prison and other nearby areas, searching for members of ISIS cells who are expected to be hidden there.

SOHR activists have documented a new spike of the death toll among ISIS due to clashes and aerial and ground operations during the battle of Ghuwayran prison, as seven members who were hiding in the prison were killed in airstrikes which targeted them last night, while they were attempting to escape. Also, 14 bodies were found during combing operations in the prisons quarters.

Last night SOHR activists documented the death of six foreign ISIS members in heavy machinegun fire by a Coalition helicopter in the area between Ghuwayran cemetery and Al-Isfinj street in Al-Hasakah city.

Accordingly, the total death toll since the start of Ghuwayran prison break on January 20 evening has reached 211: 151 ISIS fighters, seven civilians and 53 members of Asayish Forces, prison guards, counter-terrorism forces and SDF.

The Syrian Observatory asserts that this death toll is not definitive and expected to rise further in light of the ongoing combing campaigns, as more bodies are expected to be found. In addition, there are many people who have sustained serious injuries.

Last night, SOHR sources reported hearing explosions in Al-Hasakah city due to airstrikes by International Coalition aircraft on ISIS hideouts nearby Al-Sina’a prison in Ghuwayran neighbourhood in Al-Hasakah city however, no casualties were reported.
