NW Syria | Two baby girls freeze to death

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights calls on the international community and humanitarian organizations to intensify their efforts to save displaced persons in Syrian camps

SOHR sources have reported that two baby girls have frozen to death in makeshift camps in northwestern Syria.

According to the SOHR sources, A 7-day-old baby girl died of hypothermia in Al-Leith camp in Harbnoush town, north of Idlib. This little girl has been displaced from Al-Ziarah village in the southern countryside of Aleppo, where she was taken to a hospital in the area in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The doctors have diagnosed the cause of death as “hypothermia and a pulmonary hemorrhage.”

 

Additionally, a two-month-old newborn girl has frozen to death in Hor Al-Eis camp, in Al-Sheikh Bahr area, north of Idlib. The poor baby with frostbite and peripheral cyanosis has been taken to a hospital. The doctors have diagnosed the death causes as “hypoglycemia and pulmonary hemorrhage” due to freezing temperature.

On January 23, SOHR activists reported that a one-month-old infant died of hypothermia in his tent in Jarabulus city in north-eastern Aleppo.

According to SOHR sources, the victim’s family was displaced from Al-Wa’ar neighbourhood in Homs and now living in Zougharah camp near the Syria-Turkey border.
