Al-Suwaydaa | Child dies of wounds sustained in attack targeted his family by unidentified gunmen on Damascus-Al-Suwaydaa highway, killing his father days earlier

SOHR has documented the death of a child of his wounds after being shot by unidentified gunmen with his family last Tuesday, March 22, on Damascus-Al-Suwaydaa highway near Shahba city in Al-Suwaydaa countryside, where his father was killed and his family members wounded.

On March 23, SOHR activists documented the death of a civilian of his wounds he sustained when he was shot along with his family by an armed group in a “Van” on the highway between Damascus and Al-Suwaydaa, while the rest of his family comprised his wife and three of his children were receiving proper medication in the hospital.

A day earlier, SOHR activists documented the injury of a family comprising a man, his wife and three of his children with two of them being severely injured, where an armed group in a “Van” car opened fire on the family on the highway between Damascus and Al-Suwaydaa.

It is worth noting that Al-Suwaydaa province in southern Syria is experiencing insecurity chaos in light of lack of surveillance and accountability.

Accordingly, SOHR sources have documented 36 murders since early 2022, where domestic violence was behind some murders while motivations behind the others remain unknown. These murders left 36 people dead: Ten children, six women and 20 men and young men. The fatalities are distributed regionally as follows:
• A young lady and two young men in Damascus.
• A child, a little girl, an elderly person and three men in Rif Dimashq.
• A man and two women in Tartus.
• Three men, a baby and a woman in Hama.
• A young woman, a little girl, two children and seven young men in Al-Suwaidaa.
• A man and a boy in Deir Ezzor.
• An infant in Aleppo.
• A man and a child with special needs in Daraa
