Old ordnance | Two children injured in an explosion in Idlib

Idlib province: SOHR activists have documented the severe injury of two children, due to the explosion of a war remnant object in Ain Laroz town in Idlib countryside.

War remnants are scattered in areas that witnessed and still witnessing military operations, while the unexploded shells are no less dangerous than landmines.

This comes in light of lack of awareness of the dangers of war remnants and how to deal with them.

SOHR renews its appeal to all relevant international bodies to urgently address the problem and remove old unexploded ordnance from Syria.

Accordingly, SOHR has documented the death of 137 civilians, including ten women and 60 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2022. In addition, 212 civilians, including 12 women and 112 children, sustained various injuries in the same period. Among the total death toll, a man and his son were killed in the collapse of a war-damaged building in Darya city in Rif Dimashq, as well as the death of four civilians in the collapse of another building in Jubar neighbourhood.
