Airdrop by Coalition Forces | Iraqi ISIS commander killed in east Deir Ezzor countryside

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR sources have reported that an Iraqi ISIS commander was killed in an airdrop carried out by International Coalition Forces in the early hours of Monday morning on the commander’s house in Al-Jarthi town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. This coincided with flights by helicopters over the region.

According to SOHR sources, the commander showed resistance, when Coalition Forces attempted to arrest him, where exchange of fire took place between the two sides, which led to the death of the commander.

SOHR sources have also reported that the commander was hiding in this house, while his family inhabits in Al-Hawl camp in the far south-eastern region of Al-Hasakah countryside.

It is worth noting SDF-controlled areas have recently experienced considerable escalation of ISIS attacks, where ISIS carried out seven attacks since early 2024; they are distributed regionally as follows:

  • Deir Ezzor: Seven attacks.

  • Al-Hasakah: One attack.

In 2023, International Coalition Forces participated in 84 joint security campaigns with SDF, including raids and airdrops, in Deir Ezzor, Al-Hasakah, Aleppo and Al-Raqqah. During these campaigns, 518 ISIS members and commanders and members of ISIS cells were arrested. Moreover, 15 ISIS members and commanders and members of ISIS cells were killed.
