For “refusing to pay ransoms” | Unidentified gunmen open fire on a commander of Iran-backed militias

Deir Ezzor province: A Syrian commander of the Iranian militias was subjected to an assassination attempt, where unidentified gunmen on motorbikes opened fire directly on him after intercepting him and his son, while they were leaving their house in Al-Salihiya Village eastern of Euphrates in northern Deir Ezzor countryside, causing the injury of the son and the survival of the commander.

According to reliable SOHR sources, the commander was threatened by an unidentified person on his phone, after disputes took place between him and an officer of the Fourth Division, because the commander transported scrap iron from Hatla and Al-Salihiya and refused to pay ransoms.

On March 5, an officer ranked as colonel of the General Intelligence Department was killed by gunmen on motorbikes, where they opened fire on his vehicle near Al-Baloum Square in Al-Mayadeen in Deir Ezzor countryside within areas of regime forces and Iranian militias.

The victim hails from Tartous City, and it is believed he was assassinated for having disputes with security officials at smuggling crossings and security checkpoints.
