To discuss situation | delegation of International Coalition in Al-Tanf visits Al-Rukban camp and meets members of the local council

A delegation from the International Coalition in Al-Tanf base, led by the base’s commander, accompanied by members and commanders of the “Free Syrian Army” faction visited Al-Rukban camp in the 55-kilometer de-confliction zone near Syria-Iraq-Jordan border. The visit included Sham Medical Clinic and the police station as well as the camp’s market.

Residents in the camp urged the delegation to open a humanitarian corridor to one of the neighboring countries, whether Jordan or Iraq, due to the interruption of the trade route for about ten days. Some residents also held banners demanding the release of their detained sons in Al-Tanf base.
At the end of the tour, the delegation met with the camp’s local council, where the council members explained the dire living conditions of the displaced people, amid promises from the commander of the International Coalition’s base in Al-Tanf to work on reaching a solution to end the dire living conditions and the suffering of people there.

The inhabitants of Al-Rukban camp, which is located in the 55 kilometre de-confliction zone near the Syria-Jordan-Iraq border triangle, have run out of food supplies, as the only road to the camp, Hajez Al-Muthalath road, has been closed for the sixth consecutive day. The road is supervised by Russian and regime forces and Iranian-backed militias which are deployed along the road.

Moreover, the camp has completely run out of infant formula, as well as the complete shortage of many kinds of medicines, flour and vegetables, where the camp’s inhabitants depend mainly on cow milk and its derivatives for their meals, especially since the prices of available products have reached an unprecedented and unaffordable level.

On April 24, SOHR sources reported that displaced people and the members of the local council in Al-Rukban camp have appealed to every party concerned about human rights and all political officials in the US Central Command, the International Coalition in Al-Tanf garrison and all counterparts throughout Syria to interfere immediately to secure a safe corridor out of the camp to the “liberated north Syria region” or east Euphrates region. This coincides with the strict siege imposed by Russian and regime forces and Iranian-backed militias on the camp, where the camp’s inhabitants are struggling with the direst living condition ever, at a time with the international community and the United Nations continue their shameful silence and inaction, where no party has yet responded to the demands of the camp’s inhabitants.
