North of Raqqa | SDF and Russian forces recover tens of tons of wheat stored in Sherrakrak silos on frontlines with Turkish forces

SOHR sources say that the process of recovering wheat from the Sherrakrak silos in northern countryside of Raqqa continues in full swing, as dozens of tons of wheat were transported today from the silos, located on frontlines with Turkish forces and proxy factions, by SDF accompanied by Russian forces.

The operation was carried out today by civilian trucks belonging to SDF with the Russians, and were transported to Raqqa, Ain al-Arab (Kobani) and Manbij in the areas held by the “Self-Administration” in northern and north-eastern Syria.

On February 19, Syrian Observatory activists reported that the “Autonomous Administration” managed to transport, under protection of Russian forces, eight trucks carrying nearly 400 tons of wheat stored in Sherkerak silos in Al-Raqqah countryside to positions under the control of Autonomous Administration’s department of silos administration.

This development comes after Turkish forces prevented SDF from voiding wheat and barley stored in Sherkerak silos for years.

On February 15, SOHR sources confirmed that Turkish forces continued preventing SDF from voiding wheat and barley stored in Sherkerak silos in Al-Raqqah countryside. According to SOHR sources, these silos contained 16,000 tons of wheat and 25 tons of barley stored by Autonomous Administration’s institutions in mid-2019. When Turkish forces and their proxy factions captured these silos in late 2019, they looted large amounts of the stock before ceasefire was reached in the region under Russia’s sponsorship.

The Autonomous Administration uselessly tried for several times, after Russian mediations, to restore their wheat and barley from Sherkerak silos. It is worth noting that Sherkerak silos are located in the east of Ain Issa in Al-Raqqah countryside, near the frontlines between SDF and Turkish forces.
