Child recruitment | Members of “Revolutionary Youth” organization convince underage child to join training camps in rural Al-Hasakeh

SOHR sources say that members of an organization called ”Revolutionary Youth” (Joanin Shorker) managed to persuade a child to join one of their camps where intellectual and ideological trainings are conducted.

According to Observatory sources, the child escaped from her father’s house in the village of Tel Karam in northern city of Al-Darbasiya, while civil sources said she went on her own despite her mother and family’s refusal.

It is worth nothing that a similar incisent occurred in the city of Amuda by these members of “Revolutionary Youth”, as an 11-year-old girl was recruited for this organization.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had appealed to the “Autonomous Administration in northern and north-eastern Syria” and Syria Democratic Forces to comply with Geneva Conventions, which they signed, regarding the prohibition of recruiting or using children in armed conflicts. During phone calls between SOHR and officials in the Autonomous Administration, the officials have revealed that there are children under the age of 18 resort to the Autonomous Administration after escaping from their houses. We, at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, call for sending these children to childcare centers instead of sending them to centers affiliated to SDF, Shabibah (Youth Council), the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), or the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).
